TRIBECA, MANHATTAN

Bubby's

Tribeca's living room since 1990 — sourdough pancakes, seasonal pie, and no pretense at all.

Bubby's began in 1990 as a pie operation and grew into the corner of Hudson and North Moore that all of Tribeca seems to pass through before noon. The formula has not changed much in three decades: pancakes made from a sourdough starter the kitchen keeps alive, eggs and biscuits done without irony, and pies in rotation by season. The room is bright, loud in a family way, and completely unpretentious for a neighborhood that often is not.

Weekend waits are real, and the strollers are part of the furniture — this is Tribeca's living room, not a secret. Come on a weekday morning instead, take a window table, and watch the cast-iron blocks wake up over coffee and a slice of whatever pie came out that morning.

Editor’s tip

Go on a weekday before 9 a.m. for the pancakes without the line — and take a slice of pie to go.
